INDEPENDENT ARTISTS COMMITTEE (FOUNDING MEETING!)
LOCAL 802 MEMBERS: If you’re a musician performing/recording independently in any genre — downtown new music, indie rock, free jazz, experimental, singer-songwriter and more — please consider joining our very first gathering of independent artists. While Local 802 has made attempts to organize independents before, the union’s focus has often been on musicians employed in more traditional settings. With so much indie activity occurring all over the New York area, it’s due time we gather our forces and have an important meeting toward the formation of an 802 committee dedicated to this cause. Let’s explore the challenges and strengths of performance and recording work on the edge and formulate ideas on how to grow this committee within 802 as well as engaging in strong outreach to indie musicians in the wider population.
