I joined Local 802 when I became a guitar sub for Robin Macatangay in “Hamilton.” My musical goal in NYC is to continue to meet great people, be a part of inspired projects, and to learn and grow from those experiences. A personal goal is to continue to find ways to improve my playing throughout my entire career. My favorite recent gig was performing with the singer Youn Sun Nah in Marseille, France. We were joined that night by three guests: Dhafer Youssef, Erik Trouffa, and Yilian Cañizares. It was just one of those gigs where everything clicked. The evening weather was perfect. The band was sounding great: Dan Rieser on drums, Brad Jones on bass and Frank Woeste on keys. We were especially inspired by the guest musicians, and the crowd was giving off a great energy. Doubling Dhafer on his oud lines and trills with a bridge pickup Strat was a particularly fun experience. I forget which song it was, but I remember Youn singing a line with the word “wind” in it, and a Mediterranean summer night breeze kicked up in that exact moment. It was magical! I started playing guitar when I was 5. I also play bass and keys, and I produce and engineer/mix. I attended the University of Michigan for jazz studies and sound engineering, but did most of my learning when I moved to NYC after college.
