‘Why we joined the union’
Volume 118, No. 12December, 2018
I joined Local 802 because I’m interested in meeting new musicians, playing high-level theatre gigs, and performing solo, chamber and orchestral work. I also enjoy composing and arranging music and would love to have more opportunities to collaborate with other musicians, artists, dancers and film directors. My favorite recent gig was performing in the VW Dome at MoMA PS1 with artist Colin Self in a string trio as part of a sci-fi opera. I began my violin studies at age two and studied violin performance at the University of Maryland and at Oberlin. I’ve performed throughout the U.S. and Europe as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player, as well as gigs in musical theatre, folk, rock, pop, jazz, experimental, improvisatory music and more. I love to sight-read, improvise and write my own music. I also teach private lessons. I’m in a newly-formed string quartet that performs classical and contemporary music. I play with a few orchestras in and outside of New York, and I also perform my original solo singing-violinist material. I’m playing and recording with a few different singer-songwriters, and I arrange string parts for them as well. I have an ongoing improvisational duo that performs regularly and I am composing and collaborating with a cellist for a few upcoming performances.
