‘Why we joined the union’
Volume 118, No. 10October, 2018
I joined Local 802 after moving to New York City. Previously, I was a member of AFM Local 571 (Halifax, Nova Scotia). I am an actor and a trained jazz and musical theatre vocalist, and I also play ukulele and baritone sax. I enjoy working in musical theatre, and I hope to release some new original music this year. Currently, I teach musical theatre at Hoboken Children’s Theatre, and I recently directed several classes of elementary school kids in a production of “Aladdin,” which was an enriching and exciting experience. Music is a large part of my life and it’s how I’ve expressed myself from a very young age. It doesn’t matter if I’m playing a character in a musical, singing something folksy that I wrote myself, or putting my twist on a jazz standard that my grandfather would have loved; I am at home in myself when I’m singing.
