‘Why we joined the union’
Volume 118, No. 2February, 2018
I originally joined Local 802 when I moved to NYC from Boston, after another musician recommended I sign up. At the time, I had few connections but knew I wanted to be a part of the diverse and exciting musical landscape here. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to sub on Broadway, perform music of all kinds and work with wonderful, creative colleagues. Some favorite gigs I’ve played have been “The King and I” at Lincoln Center, David Bowie’s “Lazarus,” the Iridium with the Ed Palermo Big Band, and backing up David Byrne with the chamber orchestra Contemporaneous. I got those gigs through musicians I’d worked with who graciously gave me new opportunities. My goal in NYC is to continue to do what I love: play great music with great musicians.
