‘Why we joined the union’
Volume 116, No. 12December, 2016
I joined Local 802 (and moved to New York City) to play Maurice Hines’ show “Tappin’ Thru Life” featuring Sherrie Maricle and the DIVA Jazz Orchestra at New World Stages. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with the amazing Maurice Hines and play with such an incredible band. Sherrie and I first met when I was in high school and we reconnected when I was studying at Eastman. I started playing lead alto with DIVA shortly after that, and joined the nine-piece “Tappin’ Thru Life” band for the shows in Delaware, New York City and Philadelphia. What I love about this gig is that the band is engaging on stage with Maurice as part of the cast. Since the Off Broadway run, I have been playing in various small and large ensembles at jazz venues around the city as well as teaching private lessons. My instruments are alto and soprano saxophone, clarinet and flute. I look forward to meeting and working with new people and making music in a variety of settings.
