I joined Local 802 in order to sub on Broadway shows and also to have access to the community of my fellow players. My primary goal in New York is to be a regular Broadway musician subbing and playing my own shows. My most favorite recent gig was subbing Off Broadway for “Trip of Love.” The show is so much fun from start to finish and I’m grateful to be a part of it. I think that learning to sub on any show is a unique challenge. Whether it’s getting comfortable playing on someone else’s equipment, trying to nail the ways in which they approach certain passages, or getting accustomed to the various conductors and styles of shows, every one of them needs to be approached with a clean slate and the willingness to do your best to mimic the original player in every way possible. My principal instrument is guitar and all of the associated doubles (classical, banjo, ukulele, mandolin).
