‘Why we joined the union’
Volume 116, No. 7July, 2016
I joined AFM Local 400 (Hartford, Conn.) when I became a member of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and then I joined Local 802 soon after. The freelance scene in New York is very rich and diverse, and my goal is to find exciting opportunities with different groups and ensembles. I recently recorded a musical that hadn’t been performed since the 1930s and it’s been a lot of fun. I’m also part of a versatile group called the Elsewhere Ensemble. We’ve been invited to perform in Lebanon this summer. The ensemble collaborates a lot with theater artists and we’ll be playing with a Lebanese actress who will perform in Arabic. I’m very excited to be part of a cross-cultural experience like this. My main instrument is viola, and I also play the violin.
