NOTICE OF LOCAL 802 ELECTIONS

Local 802’s election of officers and delegates will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, for a term of office beginning Jan. 1, 2013.
The offices open for election are: president, financial vice president, recording vice president, nine Executive Board members, nine Trial Board members, five delegates to the AFM convention, three alternates to the AFM convention, three delegates to the New York City Central Labor Council, two delegates to the New York State Federation of Labor Convention and one delegate to the United Hebrew Trades.
In-person voting will be conducted between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the following locations:
Local 802’s New York office, 322 West 48th Street
Local 802’s Long Island office in Plainview, 54 Sunnyside Blvd.
Church of St. Paul the Apostle, parish offices, 405 West 59th Street
Members eligible to vote who make a written request for absentee mail ballots on or before Oct. 15, 2012, may cast such ballots. Members should request absentee ballots in writing from the office of the recording vice president, attention: absentee ballot request, Local 802, 322 West 48th Street, New York, NY 10036, or by e-mail to Executive Secretary Maureen Cupid at RecordingVP@Local802afm.org. Completed absentee ballots must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2012, as per the instructions on the ballot.
The term of office shall run for three years, and all candidates who receive a plurality of all votes cast for an office shall be declared elected.
Any member of this local shall be eligible to run for, hold or continue in any elective office in the upcoming election if he or she fulfills the eligibility requirements set forth in the local’s bylaws, which provide (among other things) that: “No member of this local shall be eligible to run for, hold or continue in any elective office unless he or she has been a regular member in good standing of this local for at least two years immediately preceding his or her election. Suspensions during said two-year period for periods not exceeding six months, when due solely to failure to pay periodic dues, shall not be deemed a bar to eligibility within the limit set above.”
In addition, “any staff member or non-elected staff supervisor who chooses to run for Local 802 office shall, if elected, terminate his or her employment as a staff member or non-elected staff supervisor effective on the Jan. 1 immediately following that election.”
One hundred members in good standing may nominate candidates. Nomination blanks are available in the recording vice president’s office on or after Sept. 15, 2012. Nomination blanks must be filed with the recording vice president of the local by Oct. 15, 2012 and must be accompanied by the signed and notarized acceptance of the nominees.
VOTING ELIGIBILITY: In order to be eligible to vote in Local 802’s election of officers, a member must have paid his or her dues for the third quarter on or before Sept. 30, 2012. (New members joining after June 30, 2012 are ineligible to vote in this year’s elections.)
ALLEGRO: According to past practice, each candidate may submit a 100-word statement to be printed in the November issue of Allegro, which comes out on Nov. 1, 2012. The statements will be published in the November issue. Candidates must e-mail their statements to Allegro editor Mikael Elsila at Allegro@Local802afm.org no later than 5 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2012. CANDIDATES’ PHOTOGRAPHS (NEW FOR 2012): This year, candidates may submit photographs to be published along with their statements. Photographs must be good quality head shots and must be digital images at high resolution (300 d.p.i.). Images must be received by the same, strictly-enforced Oct. 7, 2012 deadline as above. Color or black and white are both acceptable. Photographs not received by Oct. 7, 2012 will not be published. Photographs must be e-mailed to Allegro@Local802afm.org.
