‘Why we joined the union’
Volume 119, No. 11December, 2019
I joined Local 802 because my goal was to join the union when I became a financially stable musician – and I have achieved that goal! I aspire to work Broadway and Off Broadway shows as well as build more connections with other musicians. I just finished a workshop for a Bollywood-style musical sponsored by La Jolla Playhouse, where I worked as the Ableton programming assistant. I enjoyed the relaxed nature, confidence and camaraderie of the musicians I worked with, which helped make the performances professional. I studied composition and piano performance in Chicago, where I went to college. I moved to Manhattan about two years ago to enrich my music career. I specialize in sightreading, directing, arranging and interpretation. I’m equally competent in piano, guitar, bass (both acoustic and electric) and voice. I’m a collaborator above all. I have a band from Chicago called Kid, and I also teach privately. I was never mistaken about the fact that I was born to be a musician. I grew up in a musical household and music has always been the main focus of my life. I’ve never questioned that.
