TEARING UP TICKETS : Local 802 members and staff picketed “The Loves of Pharaoh,” a silent film accompanied by a non-union band at BAM ’s Harvey Theater. BAM contracted Numinous Music to present the score. Both BAM and Numinous refused to work with the union after Local 802 members called to complain. JUSTICE FOR JAZZ ARTISTS : Jazz musicians experienced a powerful display of support on Oct. 18 when over 50 demonstrators – both members and non-members alike – showed up to march with our live band and thronged the sidewalks in front of the Blue Note, demanding minimum scale wages, pensions and recording language. Local 802 has stepped up its protest schedule with weekly leafleting and special demonstrations with live jazz bands. Above, demonstrator Michelle Flores marches proudly. Photo by Nick Porter.
