The New Jersey Festival Orchestra recently sent out a hiring notice for two engagements with the Irish Tenors in December. One concert is scheduled to be held in Westbury, the other in Brooklyn. Both of the venues are within Local 802’s jurisdiction. The rates that were first offered to musicians were based on rates from the NJFO contract. But those rates pertain only to for-hire concerts within New Jersey. They do not apply to any concerts within New York City. Local 802 cannot allow NJFO to undercut our area standards. As Allegro goes to press, we were attempting to resolve the situation. We will contact the NJFO roster and keep them updated about this situation. Local 802 takes our area standards seriously.
