MAP Networking Meeting on Therapeutic Value of Music

Volume CII, No. 1January, 2002

The MAP Office’s monthly networking meeting – set for Monday, Jan. 14, from 3:30 until 5 p.m. – will feature a workshop on the therapeutic value of music for the musician.

It will be presented by Dr. Louise Montello, an internationally known authority on music and healing and author of “Essential Musical Intelligence: Using Music as Your Path to Healing, Creativity, and Radiant Wholeness.” A jazz pianist and composer, she is the founder/director of Musicians’ Wellness, Inc., conducts clinical research in the psychology department at NYU, and is Director of the Creative Arts Therapy Program at New School University. Over the past 15 years, she has brought “Essential Musical Intelligence” to thousands of people worldwide.

Dr. Montello describes EMI as “your natural ability to use music and sound to facilitate healing of the body, mind, and spirit,” a method of transforming “dysfunctional patterns of thought and behavior into dynamic energy for creative change” through a series of musical exercises. 802 members are invited to bring their favorite musical instrument(s) to the session.
