Local 802 Candidate Eligibility and Requirements

Things to consider before becoming a candidate in the Local 802 election scheduled to take place in the beginning of December 2024.

Eligibility:

  • Each candidate must be a member in good standing for two consecutive years prior to December 2024. Suspensions not exceeding six months solely due to failure to pay dues will not affect one’s good standing.
  • Petitions become available from the Recording Vice president on or after September 15, 2024.
  • A minimum of 100 signatures collected from members in good standing will suffice to nominate a candidate. Petitions must be filed on or before October 15, 2024.
  • Multiple copies of petition pages are allowed in order to circulate in more than one venue.
  • An additional 20 to 25 signatures is recommended, as some may be deemed invalid by the Recording Vice President’s office for reasons of membership status.
  • A candidate may run for a board seat as well as a delegate to a convention. In this case, separate petitions are necessary.

Requirements:

  • A candidate may not be an employer or contractor.
  • Candidates for titled officer Positions (President, Recording Vice President and Financial Vice President) may not perform as a paid musician within the 802 jurisdiction.

Duties of Local 802 Convention Delegates (and alternates)

  • Attend the AFM convention (usually in July every three years)
  • Represent Local 802 as part of the 802 delegation
  • Serve on convention committees and vote on all business presented to the convention
