KAREN FISHER
Karen Fisher passed her six-month probation on July 2 and has joined the permanent staff of Local 802 as concert rep and organizer.
A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music with a bachelor of music in clarinet performance, Karen moved to New York City in 1997 after playing in the Filharmonica del Bajio in Mexico and the United States Coast Guard Band.
She performed with several national and international touring orchestras, including the New York City Opera National Company, the New Sousa Band, and “Porgy and Bess” in Japan
As a freelance musician in New York, Karen performed with many of the orchestras she now represents as well as with several Broadway shows.
She served on a negotiating committee for Lincoln Center staff while working there, which led to an intensified interest in labor issues and unions.
Karen has already negotiated several Local 802 contracts and is now committed to improving the working conditions of New York City’s professional musicians.
She can be reached at (212) 245-4802, ext. 174 or kfisher@local802afm.org.
