TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2017

Meeting called to order at 11:02 a.m. by Financial Vice President Olcott. Present: Recording Vice President Schwartz, Executive Board members Burridge, Cutler, Dougherty, Hyde, Namkung, Sharman, Suttmann, Chief of Staff Carroll. President Gagliardi absent. Minutes from December 12, 2017 reviewed. It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from December 12, 2017 as corrected. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Financial Vice President Olcott reported on matters pertaining to Westchester Philharmonic. Discussion held. Executive Board member Cutler reported on the status of Emerging Artists Project. Discussion held. Executive Board member Garnett present at 11:13. Olcott reported on matters pertaining to Oratorio Society of New York. Discussion held. Recording Vice President Schwartz reported that a donation to the Local 802 Musicians’ Emergency Relief Fund had been received from The Haven Foundation. Discussion held. Schwartz presented a request for a donation from Feel the Music! It was moved and seconded to donate $250 to Feel the Music! Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

President Gagliardi present at 11:24. Gagliardi presented a request from Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP (CWS) for an additional monthly fee in 2018 to cover fees in excess of its 2017 retainer. It was moved and seconded to approve for payment the additional monthly fees to CWS. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously. Gagliardi presented his President’s Report to be published in the January 2018 Allegro.

Member Morris Kainuma present. Kainuma reported on his professional experience and expressed his interest in an appointment to fill a vacancy on the Local 802 Executive Board. Kainuma excused. Discussion held.

Executive Board member Burridge excused at 12:31. Gagliardi proposed that the Executive Board schedule its next meeting for January 9, 2018. Discussion held. Executive Board member Hyde reported on matters pertaining to Local 802’s vision for the future. Discussion held. Meeting adjourned at 1:14 p.m.

The Executive Board did not meet on Dec. 26, 2017 or Jan. 2, 2018.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2018

Meeting called to order at 11:11 am by President Gagliardi. Present: Financial Vice President Olcott, Recording Vice President Schwartz, Executive Board members Burridge, Cutler, Dougherty, Garnett, Hyde, Suttmann, Chief of Staff Carroll. Cynthia Lachnicht and Keith Dressel of Morgan Stanley present. Lachnicht and Dressel presented a report on the status of investments of the Local 802 General Fund and Strike Fund. It was moved and seconded to rebalance the assets of the General Fund. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously. Lachnicht and Dressel excused. Controller Camiolo present. Camiolo presented the October 2017 financial report. Discussion held. Camiolo excused. Minutes from December 19, 2017 reviewed. It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from December 19, 2017 as submitted. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

President Gagliardi reported on upcoming negotiations with New York City Ballet. Discussion held. Gagliardi reported on negotiations with New York Philharmonic. Discussion held. Gagliardi and Recording Vice President Schwartz reported on the status of negotiations for American Songbook concert series. Discussion held.

Financial Vice President Olcott presented requests from Orchestra Long Island to utilize public service scales for a performance at Floyd B. Watson Elementary School on January 26, 2018 and for a rehearsal and performance at the Wheatley School on February 15, 2018. It was moved and seconded to approve the requests from Orchestra Long Island as submitted. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Schwartz presented a quote in the amount of $2,400 for the repair of water damaged walls in the union hall’s basement. It was moved and seconded to approve the quote as submitted for the repair of the basement walls. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Schwartz reported on a benefit concert to be produced by Actors Fund of America on February 12, 2018 at the Minskoff Theatre. Discussion held. Schwartz reported on the meeting of Local 802 Artist Rights Caucus on January 8, 2018. Discussion held. Schwartz presented an invitation to attend Long Island Federation of Labor Annual Reception on March 8, 2018. Discussion held. Schwartz presented requests from two members for leaves of absence from Broadway shows. It was moved and seconded to approve the leaves of absence as submitted. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Executive Board member Cutler reported on the status of Emerging Artists Project. Discussion held. Cutler reported on the activities of Sphinx Organization, an entity dedicated to diversity in the performing arts. Discussion held. Discussion held on matters pertaining to the vacancy on the board. TUESDAY, JANUARY 16, 2018

Meeting called to order at 11:08 a.m. by Financial Vice President Olcott. Present: Recording Vice President Schwartz, Executive Board members Burridge, Cutler, Dougherty, Garnett, Hyde, Namkung, Sharman, Suttmann, Chief of Staff Carroll. President Gagliardi absent. Minutes from January 9, 2018 reviewed. It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from January 9, 2018 as corrected. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Financial Vice President Olcott presented a request from Bronx Arts Ensemble to utilize public services scales for a rehearsal and two performances on January 25, 2018 at P.S.1 in Bronx, NY. It was moved and seconded to approve the request as submitted. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Olcott reported that Local 802 will participate in an event sponsored by Arts and Entertainment Workers Resource Center on January 22, 2018. Discussion held. President Gagliardi present at 11:19 and assumed the chair. Member Chris Olness present. Olness reported on his professional background and expressed his interest in an appointment to fill a vacancy on the Executive Board. Discussion held. Olness excused.

President Gagliardi reported on his participation in AFM negotiations with League of American Orchestras and Employers’ Electronic Media Association. Discussion held. Gagliardi reported on negotiations with New York City Ballet. Discussion held. Gagliardi reported on negotiations with New York Philharmonic. Discussion held.

Recording Vice President Schwartz presented an invitation from Long Island Federation of Labor to attend its Annual Reception on March 8, 2018. It was moved and seconded to purchase a half-page advertisement in the Long Island Federation of Labor’s Annual Reception Journal at a cost of $500, funding to come from the public relations budget. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Schwartz reported that Local 802 had been quoted in an article on sexual harassment in the music industry, which appeared in the January 6, 2018 issue of Billboard magazine. Discussion held. Schwartz reported on Winter Jazzfest. Discussion held.

Schwartz presented a request from a member for a leave of absence from a Broadway show. It was moved and seconded to approve the leave of absence as submitted. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Gagliardi and Schwartz reported on the status of negotiations for American Songbook concert series. Discussion held.

Gagliardi requested payment of a membership fee covering Local 802 team participation in the Broadway show bowling league. It was moved and seconded to approve the bowling league membership fee in the amount of $90, funding to come from the public relations budget. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Electronic Media Department Assistant Supervisor Painting present. Painting requested an update of the term of the Local 802 Demonstration Recording Agreement and an increase in wages per the terms of the AFM Commercial Announcement Agreement. Painting excused. It was moved and seconded to update the Demonstration Recording Agreement as proposed. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Off Broadway Business Rep Fitzpatrick present. Fitzpatrick reported on Immigrant Arts Coalition and her election as president of that organization. Fitzpatrick excused. It was moved and seconded to approve Fitzpatrick as a representative of Local 802 to Immigrant Arts Coalition. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2018

Meeting called to order at 11:03 a.m. by Financial Vice President Olcott. Present: Recording Vice President Schwartz, Executive Board members Dougherty, Garnett, Hyde, Namkung, Sharman, Chief of Staff Carroll. President Gagliardi absent. Minutes from January 16, 2018 reviewed. It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from January 16, 2018 as corrected. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Financial Vice President Olcott presented a request from Bronx Arts Ensemble to utilize public service scales for a performance on February 10, 2018 at 442 East 140th Street, Bronx, NY. It was moved and seconded to approve the request as submitted. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously. Olcott reported on matters pertaining to the Westchester Philharmonic. Discussion held. Olcott reported on matters pertaining to New Jersey Festival Orchestra. Discussion held. Olcott reported on upcoming negotiations between Local 802 and Little Orchestra Society. Discussion held. Olcott reported on matters pertaining to membership dues. Discussion held.

Recording Vice President Schwartz reported on a request for a waiver of AFM and Local 802 membership initiation fees for new members performing under a collective bargaining agreement as Patriot Brass Ensemble. It was moved and seconded to grant the waiver of initiation fees for Patriot Brass Ensemble musicians. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Schwartz presented an agreement between Local 802 and Lincoln Center’s American Songbook concert series for the term of 2018-2020. It was moved and seconded to approve the American Songbook agreement. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Schwartz presented a letter of appreciation from Workmen’s Circle in response to a donation from Local 802. Discussion held. Schwartz presented a request from a member for a leave of absence from a Broadway show. It was moved and seconded to approve the leave of absence as submitted. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Schwartz reported on an investigation into the source of water damage to the basement of the union’s hall. Discussion held.

Chief of Staff Carroll requested that Local 802 contribute to the inauguration events for City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. It was moved and seconded to contribute $1,000 to the inauguration of Speaker Johnson, funding to come from State and Local Tempo. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Executive Board member Hyde and Carroll reported on plans announced for congestion pricing regulations in Manhattan. Discussion held. Carroll reported on the status of federal legislation pertaining to copyright. It was moved and seconded that Local 802 endorse H.R. 3945 – Copyright Alternative in Small Claims Enforcement Act and H.R. 4706 – Music Modernization Act. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously. Carroll reported on upcoming special elections. Discussion held. Meeting adjourned at 12:20 p.m.
