The Entertainment Community Fund’s HIV Initiative
In recognition of World AIDS Day
Volume 124, No. 11December, 2024
The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund) is a national human services organization that helps address the specific needs of musicians and other entertainment professionals — with a unique understanding of the challenges involved with a life in the arts and the knowledge of what it takes to thrive in an often-unpredictable industry.
In recognition of World AIDS Day, observed on December 1, the Entertainment Community Fund shines a spotlight on its HIV Initiative.
The Fund’s HIV Initiative was established to assist performing arts and entertainment professionals affected by the HIV epidemic. During these early years, the Fund provided vital support for people who were unable to continue their profession due to the impact of HIV.
Since that time, significant medical advancements have been made that have provided hope and have changed the trajectory of what it means to be living with HIV. Despite these welcomed developments, the Fund’s work goes on as HIV continues to have a significant impact on the lives of those affected. Whether currently living with HIV, newly diagnosed or caring for a loved one impacted by the virus, the program helps individuals manage long-term emotional, medical and financial needs, and serves as a safe space for those to re-center themselves during challenging times.
Social workers within the Fund’s HIV Initiative are experienced in providing help through the continuum of living with HIV, and individuals can turn to this program for both individual and group support as well as assistance in navigating community resources. Recognizing the need for consistent care, HIV Initiative social workers often work in a caring and reassuring role over many years of a person’s life.
The Entertainment Community Fund is committed to maintaining your privacy. The services of the HIV Initiative are confidential and available to all professionals working in the performing arts and entertainment, including members of Local 802, with eligibility for financial assistance determined through an application, interview and documentation of professional earnings.
