Classical Musicians Discuss Recording Agreement
Volume CVI, No. 12December, 2006
On Wednesday, October 18, 2006 this season’s first meeting of the Classical Musicians’ Forum met in the Club Room at Local 802. The topic of discussion was the new Symphony, Opera and Ballet Live Recording Agreement (SOBLRA). Deborah Newmark, Director of Symphonic Electronic Media with the AFM was guest speaker. Debbie walked those in attendance through the new agreement explaining its various complexities. This presentation was followed by questions and answers.
Many orchestra managements have expressed great interest in the SOBLRA. Since the use of this agreement requires orchestra committee involvement and project approval on a case-by-case basis by the orchestra musicians, understanding the agreement is important. It is our hope that this agreement will lead to increased live recording opportunities in the symphonic field.
The next meeting of the Classical Musicians’ Forum will take place on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in the Club Room at Local 802. The topic will be the classical musicians survey in preparation for the upcoming major freelance orchestra negotiations. Please call Lisa Mejia at (212) 245-4802 x106 if you would like to attend. Lisa can also be reached by e-mail at lmejia@local802afm.org.
