Claim-Processing Errors Causing Concern
Health Benefits Update
Volume C, No. 12December, 2000
Last month’s Allegro included the welcome information that the backlog of Health Benefits Plan claims had finally been cleared. The problem stemmed from Union Labor Life Insurance Company’s relocation of its claims office from Manhattan to King of Prussia, Pa. The move disrupted claims processing and made it necessary for ULLICO to train a completely new staff,
By now, 802 members should have received checks or payment notices for most of their overdue bills. But a new problem has emerged: ULLICO’s new staff, which is still learning the system, have made errors in significant numbers of the claims they have processed.
As a result, calls to the Local 802 Health Benefits Plan are still running far above normal, and the staff are working overtime to get the problems resolved. “We worked closely with ULLICO to get the claims backlog cleared up,” HBP Administrator Dan Jaffe told Allegro, “and I think that 802’s assistance will help their staff get up to speed very soon. But in the meantime, we are relying on members to bring any problems to our attention – so that we can have the claims reviewed and ensure that plan participants receive all the benefits they are entitled to.”
