The following resolution has been submitted for consideration at the membership meeting to be held Tuesday, June 20, at 3 p.m. in the Local 802 Club Room:

WHEREAS the membership of Local 802 should have maximum flexibility in choosing its officers and board members, and

WHEREAS the use of slates may serve to discourage individual members from running for election, and

WHEREAS Local 802 must encourage as many people as possible to participate in order to have a vibrant, active, democratic union,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Article VI, Section 2 A through D be stricken from the bylaws.

The Board reports this resolution without comment. Board discussion on the bylaw amendment indicated that the Board was unfavorable but not unanimous in that opinion. The Board preferred to hear discussion on this resolution at the Bylaw Meeting.
