Scoring tickets to “Hamilton” is a coup. But getting a backstage tour remains only a dream to most audience members. Recently, a Broadway superfan got this enviable experience  by winning the grand prize in the Broadway Boosters contest.

We wrote about this contest last month, but here’s a quick refresher. Broadway Boosters is dedicated to building social media buzz around Broadway.  Members of the public share content and links on social media. Each post racks up points for the contestants to win prizes. It’s a win-win for everyone connected to Broadway, including musicians. The program builds excitement and encourages ticket sales by cultivating an online presence for Broadway productions and for the “Out of the Pit” music series.

Last month we wrote about Alex Chang and his sister Alison, who won a backstage tour of “Aladdin,” hosted by Local 802 member and conductor Andy Grobengieser. This month, we’d like to introduce you to grand prize winner Sara Ross.

Ross, who lives on the Upper East Side, works as the assistant director of an NYC nonprofit. She and her guest recently met Local 802 members Anja Wood (cello) and Jonathan Dinklage (violin) at the “Hamilton” stage door for a fantastic behind-the-scenes tour of the Richard Rodgers Theater. The tour included a guided visit to the orchestra pit, a view of the famous Alexander Hamilton life-size cutout signed by celebrities who’ve attended the show, and some behind-the-scenes glimpses of Broadway magic.

After the tour, Sara and her guest  were treated to dinner at Sushi Seki Times Square, accompanied by Anja and Jonathan. Dinner conversation revolved around Broadway shows and the musicians’ insider experiences.

Anja told me, “It was really lovely. Both Jonny and I really liked Sara and her friend. Sara works for a NYC nonprofit that helps kids struggling with reading deficiencies, so she sort of stole our hearts. She was very enlightening and inspiring.” The complimentary dinner was hosted in a private dining room at Sushi Seki, and included a chef’s tasting menu dinner for four, offered as a thank-you from Sushi Seki to the Times Square Alliance and the “Hamilton” musicians. Anja told me that they all really enjoyed their dining experience. She said, “I toured Japan for years and experienced many wonderful chefs’ tasting menus. Sushi Seki was on par with my best experiences in Tokyo. We felt very well taken care of, and the food was spectacular!”
