ORGANIZING DEPARTMENT: Working for Your Dignity

Considering membership in Local 802, the world’s largest professional musicians’ local? We’re the Organizing Department, and we can help you to make your job better.

Perhaps you’re working a gig with horrible pay and an abusive conductor, bandleader or producer.

Or maybe your job is good, but you wish it paid pension and health benefits.

Possibly, everything’s fine, but you’re losing sleep over the threat of recorded music or A.I.

No matter the music you play — jazz, rock, hip hop, world music, pop, concert, theatre or the avant garde — you need a voice on the job.

You can make a difference with the help of Local 802’s Organizing Department. Our mission is to help turn nonunion jobs into union jobs. That’s what “organizing” means — bringing people together to win the gains of a union and to strengthen membership. Our expertise is strategy, and we’ll never break confidence unless you and your colleagues feel the time is right.

Together, we can win the improvements that no one can on their own. Let’s strengthen the union and fight for a contract. Local 802 wants contracts including pension and health benefits to become standard throughout the industry. We also offer many other benefits including professional rehearsal space on premises at extremely low rates, political advocacy on local, state and national levels, listing in our directory of members, and assistance from union representatives and organizers in winning union contracts.

There should never be a race to the bottom for we who cast the soundtrack of NYC.

Your future belongs to you. We can help.
