Women of 802 and Maestra are thrilled to co-sponsor three events in July, Pass the Mic: Black Women+ Musicians in Conversation. These panel discussions, for both affinity and intersectional groups, will feature some of the most in-demand artists and creators in our industry sharing their stories. It will be an opportunity to create community and to focus on the individual perspectives of these women in a broader discussion of identity, access and inclusion, social responsibility, and accountability in the music industry. Panels will be moderated by esteemed playwright, dramaturg, producer, and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, Jacqueline Lawton.

These events are not limited to members of Local 802 or Maestra. All are welcome.

About Jacqueline Lawton

JACQUELINE E. LAWTON is a playwright, dramaturg, producer, racial equity facilitator, and advocate for Access, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the American Theatre. Her approach to facilitation is anti-racist, anti-bigoted, and intersectional. Her work examines the ways that racism, bigotry, misogyny, and ableism impact policy, practices, and pedagogy. She is centered on the individual, whether you work at a theatre, university, or nonprofit organization. Because each of us has an individual and collective responsibility to ourselves and each other. Recent clients have included the English National Opera, James Madison University’s School of Theatre and Dance, Maestra Music, PlayMakers Theatre Company, and Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre, Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dramatic Art at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a dramaturg for PlayMakers Repertory Company. She is a proud member of the Dramatist Guild of America and is their NC Regional Rep.
