Nanci Belmont is a Musician of New York.
Nanci Belmont has been living in New York for nearly seven years, and she still hasn’t gotten bored. Originally from Tampa, Florida, Nanci made the move north to continue studying the bassoon, and has been living and working in the city ever since. In addition to playing bassoon at gigs throughout the city, she teaches at multiple music schools and her own private studio. She also does teaching artist work at New York City public schools to bring live music and creative projects to our city’s children. As a freelancer, she’s had the chance to play at Carnegie Hall, play a live film score performance at BAM, and be part of a TV shoot for Mozart in the Jungle. When she’s not working, she loves running along the river and going to pub trivia. Although she lives with two other musicians in her Washington Heights apartment, they’ve only ever gotten a noise complaint for walking too loudly.
“Being a musician means I’m always doing a variety of things. I spend a lot of time at home, especially as a bassoonist, making reeds and prepping for things. It’s definitely one of those types of jobs that you’re always at work until you decide you’re not at work. Sometimes I find myself still making reeds or answering emails at like, 2:00 in the morning when I’ve been out all day.” #MusiciansofNY
