Volume 116, No. 5May, 2016
At Local 802, musicians support their fellow artists. We’ve recently begun producing a monthly benefit concert called “Jazz in the Afternoon,” featuring top Local 802 talent, with all proceeds benefiting the Local 802 Musicians’ Emergency Relief Fund. Shows typically take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Local 802. For the next date, contact Bettina Covo at bcovo@local802afm.org or (212) 245-4802, ext. 152. To make a donation to the relief fund now, visit www.local802erf.org. Bands led by Wally Dunbar (photos by Walter Karling) and Bill Warfield (photos by Kate Glicksberg) perform at two recent benefits.
Local 802 member Steven Karmen (pictured at right) was also recently featured in this series. Steve spoke about the state of the jingle business and his experiences as one of the most successful jingle writers. It was an opportunity to get up close and personal with one of the living giants in the jingle field. Steve is an honor member of Local 802 and the author of “I Love New York,” the official song of New York State.
